Road appears to be in danger of collapse!
Reported anonymously at 15:51, Mon 10 August 2020
Sent to Stratford-on-Avon District Council and Warwickshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2238972.
Rosary Lane, near the junction with Little Wolford Road, is sinking and the road surface is breaking up; indeed, parts of the road appear in danger of collapse. The cause is most likely the erosion of subsoil due to the long-standing collapse of culverts draining gullies in Little Wolford Road and Rosary Lane. One such culvert, crossing East/West beneath Little Wolford Road and extending along the south side of Rosary Lane, has recently been partially repaired (following complaints over many years), but there is clearly another culvert that crosses North/South beneath Rosary Lane at the point where the road is sinking and its surface breaking up, which has not been investigated.
Sooner or later, a wheel of the bin lorry will disappear into a hole!

As predicted, the bin lorry has made the situation worse. Some yellow markings have appeared on the road, but I am expecting little more than the usual temporary patch to the worst-affected area.

As expected, the road has merely been resurfaced, so the problem will doubtless recur. To make matters worse, the drain gullies on either side of the road have been left angled such that surface water streaming down Rosary Lane from Little Wolford Road bypasses them completely. Not that this makes a great deal of difference, of course, since (as also reported at this website, but still not fixed) the culverts draining these drain gullies have clearly collapsed: what little surface water that once was collected by the gullies simply re-emerged from surface cracks and potholes a little lower down Rosary Lane.
It is surely false economy to keep patching the road surface without addressing the underlying problem, which dye testing has clearly shown to be blocked/collapsed culverts. Surface water entering the gully that also drains the fountain (once the village's source of drinking water) outside Little Wolford Manor has been demonstrated by Severn Trent Water, many years ago, to emerge from cracks in the Rosary Lane road surface, yet Warwickshire Highways continues to patch road surfaces rather than address the underlying problem.
