Increased road traffic and noise
Reported anonymously at 14:40, Tue 14 January 2020
Sent to Warwickshire County Council 5 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1937173.
Since the road works for the Stanks A46 upgrade things were fine until they closed off one of the roads and now our street St Michael's Road is being used as a rat run and it's become very dangerous and noisy since. Some cars avoid the diversion and instead come up St Michael's road. We are getting more lorries and larger vehicles than normal and the increase of traffic has now made the road rather unsafe. It already has an issue with workers parking in dangerous ways making the traffic flow hard, but now we have an increased traffic flow and dangerous parking. Sometimes the no 1 bus struggles to get past. Something needs to be done to stop this street from being used as a rat run. Now that folks know it's there they may use it more often. And the cars speed down the road and the corner. It's an accident waiting to happen. Also there is an increase in pollution too. Something needs to be done to stop this once quiet and safe road being ruined like this. And the noise level during the rush hours are terrible. Please could you get this sorted before there is an accident. Maybe limit parking for the period of the works. Or stop the drivers coming down this road, only a bus or residents...... And how long will the other road be closed for?
Thank you. A very concerned resident Sharon Woodward

Agree with the comments above. The PM peak is a particular problem, as traffic diverting from Wedgnock Lane is queueing along the entire length of St Michaels Road, due to the difficulty in turning right at the end into Birmingham Road. This also makes it extremely dangerous to travel in the opposite direction squeezing between the queued vehicles and parked cars.
The increase in the volume of traffic using St Michaels Road (including numerous HGV's) is causing excessive noise from about 6am and is resulting in the road surface deteriorating rapidly. There is also a problem with speeding vehicles during quieter periods.
I assume that resurfacing works will be undertaken on St Michaels Road once Wedgnock Lane has been reopened to traffic. In the meantime, temporary traffic management measures to improve road safety should be considered on St Michaels Road.
