Cars Parking On Cycleway/Footpath outside Warwick School/Kings High Sports ground

Reported anonymously at 13:35, Thursday 9 January 2020

Sent to Warwickshire County Council 5 minutes later

Parents and other users of the Warwick School/Kings High Sports ground are parking on the verge and cycleway/footpath outside the entrance to the facility instead of using the car park. As evidenced by the pictures this represent a dangerous obstruction for cyclist and pedestrians alike as well as destruction of the grass verge. This has also led to copious amount of mud being spread onto the cycleway creating a slip hazard. As evidenced by the photos this problem has been happening since May 2018. The mud picture is Jan 2020. Bollards are needed either side of the sports ground entrance for the entire length of the one way road as parking control will not be able to ticket offenders as they sit in their cars and will only drive off before a ticket can be issued.

  • I have further information with regards this information. During my daily cycle commute I have observed a queue of traffic forming back along the one way part of the road for cars wishing to turn right. This is blocking cars wishing to go straight on so they are driving on to the cycle/pedestrian way to get by the queue. This is extremely dangerous and bollards are needed to prevent this behaviour as a matter of urgency. There is a long queue to turn right as Warwick school parents cannot turn right coming out the the new entrance and have to turn left and go down to this junction and turn right. This started Dec 2019, the same time that evidence of driving on the cycle/pedestrian way emerged.
