Missing 7.5t Weight Restriction Sign

Reported in the Road signs category anonymously at 15:40, Fri 6 September 2019

Sent to Warwickshire County Council 4 minutes later

There is a 7.5t weight restriction on St Mary’s Road in between Radford Road and St Mary’s Terrace, which is signposted both at the location and at the junction of St Mary’s Road and Soans Drive.

However, there is no signage indicating this northbound on Caswell Road or at its junction with St Mary’s Road. This means HGVs including articulated lorries driving northbound on Caswell Road are unaware of the restriction and this turn west on to St Mary’s Road and towards the restriction.

Once there, due to space limitations they are unable to turn around and are forced to break the restriction.

St Mary’s Road is quite narrow especially at the canal bridge and totally unsuitable for this kind of traffic, hence the reason for the restriction. HGVs using St Mary’s Road mistakenly are causing a great deal of noise, vibration, pollution and disturbance to the residents, as well as causing traffic issues when buses come in the opposite direction, forcing them to mount the pavement.

The recognised route to and from the industrial estate is via Sydenham Drive, not St Mary’s Road.

Can adequate signage please be erected on Caswell Road and at its junction with St Mary’s Road to ensure drivers of vehicles over 7.5t GVW know they cannot use St Mary’s Road - thank you.
