Gravely unsafe diversion options due to roadworks in Lower Quinton. The two options in & out of the village are single track roads with limited passing places. The roads both have no kerb; the edges of both roads are so ‘nibbled’ that my car wheel was caught, the steering wheel wrenched out of my hands & I veered into an oncoming car. With the road traffic accident yesterday & a dog apparently killed in day one of the 35 day roadworks diversion, there is a huge safety concern about the two diversion routes. The signs on both say ‘no HGVs and yet there are HGVs & Johnson’s double decker buses (carrying school children) using these routes deemed unsuitable for large vehicles. My car broke a spring when I had to pull onto the grass verge for another car to pass. The grass verges are severely rutted all the way along the route. I’ll be closing for this broken spring & damage to my car. My car has low profile tyres & is very low. I struggled to even get on & off the grass verge to allow that car to pass, as it’s simply not wide enough for two cars. Whoever came up with this dangerous & potentially fatal pair of diversions has clearly not looked at the roads concerned. As a mother of three boys that use the Johnson’s buses, currently forced to take these single track diversion routes, I am extremely concerned for their safety. The roadworks did not need to close the busy main route into the village for 35 days. With two accidents already, how long before there is a human fatality? Is that a risk you are happy to take? Do you take full responsibility for my & my son’s lives for the duration of these ridiculous roadworks? Looks forward to some kind of urgent response.
