Major roadworks (ongoing for next 5 weeks) as one approaches Nuneaton via the A444 Weddington Road as it meets the Hinckley Road. The first notification sign of these roadworks is a 'traffic lights' sign some 50 mts from the roadworks witha sign saying the 'Major roadworks will be on for next 5 weeks' some 20 mts from the road works themselves. At 1415 hrs today 7/2/19 the traffic queues coming into town controlled by these lights stretches back as far as Shanklin Drive, with wait time over 10 minutes! Coming out of Nuneaton via Leicester Road bridge, the traffic is at a standstill with little signing at all. There are no signs out for diversions. Does no one have to follow the updated October 2018 Code of Practise for roadworks manual. Traffic now trying to get to the main A5 cannot now without great delay get out from Nuneaton via the above route without considerable delay; the A47 Long Shoot because of temporary traffic lights causing severe congestion; Lutterworth Road, Nuneaton for the next 5 weeks due to a canal brdige being closed. Does anyone not plan the timing of all these roadworks, or inspect the non- existent signing? Nuneaton is gridlocked ata quiet part of the day - what happens at 'rush-houir' I dread to think

Apologies for the delay in providing this response to the congestion problems at the site of the Weddington Road/Old Hinckley Road improvement works. The works being undertaken at this busy junction are to provide signalled controlled facilities to assist pedestrians and cyclists crossing the roads. We recognise that the works have been causing delays and inconvenience last week and Thursday night the traffic delays were more significant. I understand there were other factors affecting the local road network in the area, however I do accept our works were potentially a major factor. We have now reviewed the traffic management arrangements with the Contractor undertaking the works so as to keep traffic moving through the junction and we can confirm that the situation has improved significantly. From today, all traffic restrictions and controls will be removed in advance of the peak evening period (ie after 3:30pm) and over the weekend. Furthermore, works that affect the flow of traffic will be programmed to avoid the AM and PM peak periods before 9:30am and after 3:30pm respectively. During daytime working periods, the contractor will provide personnel to assist pedestrians wishing to cross the A444. This will minimise the impact on traffic flow during the peak period of pedestrian crossing demand. Overnight, pedestrian crossing arrangements will be uncontrolled (as they were before the works began). The works are expected to continue for a further 4 weeks. There will be a short-term temporary road closure on Old Hinckley Road to enable carriageway surfacing work. This work will be carried out during off-peak periods (ie overnight and on Sundays). The specific dates will be confirmed and notified nearer the time, when they have been agreed with Network Management. Please let me know if you have any further queries and thank you for your patience while we have worked to address this matter. Kind regards, Elodie Arsicaud
