Dangerous and sub-standard on-carriageway advisory cycle lane

Reported in the Road markings category anonymously at 15:56, Tue 25 September 2018

Sent to Warwickshire County Council 3 minutes later

The on-carriageway cycle lane as it follows the A444 past Nuneaton train station and towards Leicester Road is not of a sufficient nor consistent width, such as to make it unsuitable for cycling.

Currently, the lane narrows as it rounds the corner with the junction to the station. Cyclists following this lane are squeezed to the road edge, following a line unsuitable for even a modest speed. There are dangers by being in this position due to drain covers, debris, little manoeuvring room and the risk of encroachment from vehicles leaving the station.

This lane should be removed in its current form and, in the absence of any better improvements, at least repainted with a mandatory lane to adhere to guidelines (DMRB Vol 5, Sec 2, Part 4, TA 91/05, Annex 3.2) recommending a 2m wide lane.
