Culvert wall disintegrating Berrills Lane Cherington

Reported anonymously at 14:56, Tue 11 June 2019

This is a small (about 10-15 feet) open area of the main flood water culvert through the village. The walls are brick one side and stone the other. Both walls are collapsing into the stream of water. Local people are collecting the bricks out of the water to stop a blockage and standing them beside the culvert as per photo ready for a repair. The walls are becoming more and more mudbanks instead of secure walls holding the culvert open for the passage of water. This culvert is known to regularly flood to a level way above the ground either side, as can be seen on the water mark on the wall behind the culvert pipe and 12 inches up on a nearby tree. In a flood situation the walls will collapse and block the culvert. This has been reported before some months ago and action was noted as being required. None has been taken. The environment agency has today identified this culvert as the responsibility of the Lead Local Flood Authority Office at the council. Stratford district council has passed it to Warwick county council. The current weather conditions are putting this culvert at risk and also the risk of flood damage to the area.
