Two lane road markings causing congestion at traffic lights

Reported anonymously at 10:57, Wed 9 May 2018

Currently there are two lanes leading up to the LongShoot traffic lights on the A5 heading South East. Both lanes lead straight on and immediately return to one lane after the lights which results in many cars (even trucks) queue jumping the traffic in the left lane then causing congestion at the lights and blocking the junction on several occasions. The queue jumping does not help the congestion as the traffic has to merge back. I have seen drivers driving too fast along the cross hatched section from the A5 Aquatics to queue jump, even resulting in an accident for a resident pulling across the road. The current two lanes encourages bad driving manners and I have seen some irate people more than once. May I suggest two options: 1. the right lane be changed to right-turn only and a yellow box added to the junction or, 2. the road past Dodwells Garage to the roundabout be modified so that the two lanes continue. Left-lane to A47/B4666 and right-lane for B4666/A5. This would greatly improve the overall congestion as this small section is the bottle neck often causing tailbacks to the Nuneaton Road.
